Promote what you bake
You have good ideas.
But you leave the stage for those who promote themselves well even if their ideas are bad or mediocre. I am sure you run into people like this in business, politics or in social settings. People pay attention to those who capture their attention.
You either get discouraged and give up on marketing and promoting yourself.
You let emotions and no results dictate your destiny and call yourself ‘loser’ or ‘failure.' because no one paid attention to you.
Or you keep your mouth closed. closed mouth don’t get fed. You never share and talk about your ideas and work.
I remember when I worked for a company for my first professional job. I have never asked for raise. Thinking management will evaluate my performance. and get what I deserve according to that. but no, they thought I am happy with my salary. and I was saving them money.
What's in your brain is there to be out
If you have something to offer. A value to provide. Idea to improve a business or make breakthrough technology. It could be anything. And keep your ideas to yourself, no one will ever hear about them.
You don't have to be a genius to share ideas or work. If you have a brain you can think and create.
I hope you're not one of those who think 'my work will speak for itself' that will get you no where. Or think of promoting yourself as a self centred and selfish. you're making mistake.
When you keep ideas to yourself
You will miss growth opportunities. Without exposure how would you get a feedback to refine your ideas. you will limit your personal and professional development.
You prevent others from knowing about your capabilities or what you stand for. you limit collaborating and working like-minded people.
Take for example Nikola Tesla. He was a genius. Tesla's innovative ideas were often ignored during his lifetime. He neglected marketing his innovative ideas.
While Thomas Edison marketed his ideas and built public persona. despite Tesla was more advanced in his ideas. But Edison is more recognized. And built for himself a company. Investors and people believed in him.
Tesla's work from 1900 only recognized in 20th and 21t century.
If you don't, someone else will take the credit for your work or for their mediocre work. And you let people with bad intentions to steal the spot light and influence people for their own agenda.
Promoting yourself will get new doors of opportunities. people would want to work with you or start a business with you. or even you may get customers or the job you have always dreamed of.
Your work and ideas can be starting point for others. or help others by providing them new information.
Scholars and philosophers from ancient time were documenting their ideas and work. without that we wouldn't have starting point to develop knowledge and science.
They are two ways to promote your ideas
write and share in social media and blogs. I prefer writing for the benefit this skill will provide. It will help you to communicate ideas better. speak better and develop new ideas on top of your original one.
Or start by making videos on social media. with this, you still have to write a script.
when it comes to promoting your work and ideas. You have to learn the the science of getting others attentions. by hooking them with headline and show what problem your idea solves. support your argument with experience, other people's finding, quotes or statistics.
Inject storytelling format for some instances. To build public persona you should learn how to resonate your ideas. With people's desires, pains, dreams, struggles, etc.
As I mentioned people pay attention to those who promote themselves well. Even with mediocre idea. Great idea is half the work, the other half in promoting it.
Ideas require a circus to be showcased, and only you can promote your own circus.
