Are you consistent or persistent

Which one are you?

The reason I ask is because:

It's a piece of advice you often hear from people.

Some praise consistency, while others praise persistence.

That's the secret to achieving your desired outcomes:

Showing up every day. Taking daily actions that help you reach your goals.

The overall advice is to be consistent.

I felt the urge to raise awareness and define both words.

Explain what each of them does and which one you should start with. You can show up daily and take action, but see no results.

When this happens over a period of time, you will feel depressed and frustrated. It can lead you to give up on what you're doing.

Imagine you go to the gym 5-6 times a week for about two years. You're consistent, but you don't see results. That can make you want to quit, especially when your goal isn't just to train for a healthy lifestyle, but also to look hot and sexy.

It's like using the same formula over and over and expecting a different result.

This is where the problem lies with taking consistency as advice and running with it.

You convince yourself that your daily actions will eventually lead to results. You may see results, but they will likely be small.

I've been going to the gym 4-6 times a week for two and a half years, but I haven't achieved the body I want yet. I'm consistent, but I haven't been persistent enough.

To see greater results, you need to be persistent.

Let's define what each of them means.

Consistency is about maintaining the same behavior, attitude, or level of performance over time

It involves:

  • Creating and sticking to a routine

  • Performing tasks or behaviors repeatedly

  • Building habits through regular, steady effort

Consistency is essential for developing good habits and achieving long-term goals.

Persistence is the act of continuing efforts despite difficulties, obstacles, or lack of success. It involves:

  • Learn new skills and knowledge to improve

  • Pushing through challenges and setbacks

  • Maintaining determination and willpower

Persistence is crucial for overcoming obstacles by learning and improving your actions.

Consistency and persistence work well together. You can't go far with just one of them.

When you don't see results, your persistent attitude will push you to learn what you're doing wrong and how to fix it.

By understanding the differences between consistency and persistence, you can tailor your approach to different situations and goals.

The next time you hear one of them as advice, be sure to emphasize the difference and how they work together.

Thank you for reading. We’ll talk in the next letter.
